The big daddy, original gangsta of self-help books, How to Win Friends and Influence People was first published in 1937 and became an overnight – and everlasting — sensation. The book is just as relevant and useful today as it was 75 years ago because Dale Carnegie had an understanding of human nature that will never be outdated. Financial success, Carnegie believed, is due 15 percent to professional knowledge and 85 percent to “the ability to express ideas, to assume leadership, and to arouse enthusiasm among people.” Like most classics that endure, there’s a reason over 15 million people have benefitted from its wisdom, and you should be one of them so better put this on your reading list.

Not to mention Linchpin, Purple Cow, Tribes, and oh yeah, every book Seth Godin’s ever written. Seth Godin is THE man. He’s the father of modern-day thinking about marketing. For a long time, Unleashing the Ideavirus was the most popular ebook ever published, and Purple Cow was the bestselling marketing book of its decade. He pretty much single-handedly changed the way people think about marketing and work.

A wise, wonderful man (read my interview here), Chris Guillebeau is the go-to guru, easy-on-the-eyes, self-helper extraordinaire who pens hard-to-put-down self-help books.
